ETF is a total conversion mod to the popular online shooter, Wolfenstein Enemy Territory. Enemy Territory Fortress is actually the once popular Quake 3 Fortress mod that had been ported to Enemy Territory to make the game totally free. The original gameplay is derived from Team Fortress and ETF is considered a very fast-paced shooter with a higher than normal learning curve to the game which inludes "Rocket Jumps", "Conc Jumps", "Bunnyhopping", and other tricks that can make a new player give up quite easily. In my experience with this game, very few players take the time to learn and master the skills of this game which will only make them better gamers in the future.
ETF was released in January 15, 2005 and went through a few updates to accomodate certain bugs and upgrades to the source game. The development team announced that further development was discontinued in February 19, 2006 and version 1.6 is the final version of this mod which is virtually bug free and much better than the original Quake version.
A number of old Q3F clans made a short comeback into the ETF-gameplay, however, as more and more players lost interest clans folded or merged into new clans, resulting in a small community. Nonetheless the community is still actively producing new maps, movies, IRC-bots and a statistics program. You can still find pickup games daily on the Kindergarten servers and even find a few public matches evolve at random times. It seems that if a player joins an empty server, other players start to join eventually and a great game can come about in a matter of minutes.
If you would like to try out Enemy Territory Fortress, you can download the mod totally free and check it out for yourself. ETF even includes a few skill maps for single player action that will keep your palms sweating. Please follow all of the instructions and download Enemy Territory Fortress from
